I'd like to know if this is a good set up for gaming, I'm looking to play all new games and upcoming games on highest settings and then not have to worry about upgrading for a while, do you guys think this will do?

Oh, okay.
Your setup is pretty good, but some things can be improved:
1, You're getting ripped off on the RAM, cheaper and better performing G.SKILL kits can be found for ~140$
2, The motherboard is overpriced for what it is, the Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H is better IMO and it's cheaper, at 129.99$ after rebate
3, If you're a heat-conscious person (i.e. you care a lot about the amount of heat in your system), you can buy the 252$ Xeon E3-1231V3 which is basically a locked i7 without the integrated graphics, so it'll run cooler while drawing less power.

Thanks for the answers! One more question though, would a 500watt psu be able to handle all of that minus the I7 replaced with an I5 4690k

Yes, as:
1, The 4790K consumes a few watts more than the 4690K
2, The 970 requires only a 450 watt PSU for it and all of the components

I'd just go with a 500-550w power supply though.
