Do you have to change ram timings when overclocking cpu?

I am trying to overclock my phenom ii x4 965 be c2 and i was wondering do you have to change the ram timings to overclock the cpu using the multiplier?

no. but increasing voltage / loosening the timings will help with stability

how do you loosen the timings ? my motherboard is m5a97 r2..0 and its very confusing in the bios how to loosen the timings.

i bought a new motherboard to replace my old one m3a78-em and i have been able to get it stable at 3.7 ghz but anything above flakes out, i usually get 0x124 bsod.
