Do You Need A G-Sync Monitor, to use G-Sync on a GTX 1060 6GB?

Hello,
Do i need a monitor that is compatible with G-Sync to use in it game?
my monitor is AOC E2429SWHE
(Also what is the refresh rate of my monitor? i cant find it on their website)

At that price, there is no way it's a gsync monitor. There is a significant price hike for gsync monitors. But yes, you have to have a gsync monitor to run gsync on your GPU, nVidia put a module (and charges a lot for it) in the monitor to communicate with the GPU. They went this route instead of supporting the open standard AMD's Freesync is based on. More money in it for nVidia to make it proprietary.

When you think about it, Freesync isn't entirely free.
 


Never said it was, however, adaptivesync is and it's the standard that Freesync is built on. There is a premium for a Freesync monitor but it's no where near that of gsync. nVidia could easily support it, but they would lose money. Who would pay the crazy price for gsync when you can get adaptivesync and not be locked into a vendor.
