Do you think GTX 970 coil whine will be fixed in future batches?

Hi,

Right now I am in the market for a new graphics card, but the highly reported cases of conspicuous coil whine is concerning to me. Sounds like Nvidia and their partners acknowledged the issue. Do you think the next manufactured generation of 970s might address the coil whine? I'm willing to wait if the issue might be resolved.

According to EVGA they replaced parts that were causing this from the manufacture line. They are also urging all that have this issue to call them to have the card replaced. I recently bough a new GTX 970 SC from EVGA and if it come with whine I know i can get a replacement right away from EVGA. They have the best costumer support from all other brands.

Thanks Kenny! "According to EVGA they replaced parts that were causing this from the manufacture line" - if you don't mind me asking, where did you hear this? Did they say this on their forums or something?

My Strix's don't whine. They take it like a man.

-Anyway-

I think they probably will fix it. The first batch of cards generally have slight issues that are fixed later. I got lucky, mine are fine.

Well there a nice article online by pcper.com that talk about this issue mostly happening with GTX 970 (http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/GeForce-GTX-970-Coil-Whine-Concerns .
---------------
From MSI:
The coil whine issue is not specific to 900 series, but can happen with any high end GPU and that MSI is looking in to ways to minimize the issue. If you still have concern regarding this issue, then please contact our RMA department. Here are the three statements that we made by EVGA, MSI, and NVidia.
---------------
From EVGA:
We have been watching the early feedback on GTX 970 and inductor noise very closely, and have actively taken steps to improve this. We urge anyone who has this type of concern to contact our support so we can address it directly.
---------------
From NVIDIA:
We’re aware of a small percentage of users reporting excessive “coil whine” noises and are actively looking into the issue.

With that said, I received my first EVGA 970 SC today and I have 0 whine and it's extremely quiet. The fans only turn on at 60c. READLLY GOOD CARDS.

I really hope kenny1007 is right. I really wanted this card for the "bang for the buck factor", but after reading new egg reviews almost everyone complained of some noise or whine of some kind. I've decided I'm going to order this from EVGA directly instead of Newegg in the hopes that EVGA will have fixed any GPUS they had on hand or i'll get a fresh off the line one. I fear the one's at Newegg may be the GPU's that have been sitting in Neweggs warehouse and never been back to EVGA to fix the noise issues, but we'll see i guess. From that article kenny1007 listed it says the issue could be fixed with some glue on specific inductors of the GPU, so hopefully the one ill be ordering from EVGA directly will have this fix applied to it...I let ya know.

Did your SC come with Whine? My 970 FTW did.. and now im wondering if I should return it or live with it for a year until new ones come out. Im concerned with my other components having issues now. 2-3 days after my crazy whine, my PSU died. The new PSU does the same whine. My broken PSU was 1 month old... Corsair CS750M and the new one is the Antec HCG750. The whine is there, just as bad as before... :*(

I wouldn't wait. They might not like the fact that you waited until the new FTW and refuse to replace it or just sent you a new FTW like the one you have. To be in the safe side I would just call them and have it replace as soon as possible. I'm going to buy the new SSC that came out in about a week or so and if i get whine I will be calling that same day.
