The intention is to replace D drive with a 1 TB SATA hard drive to be used as back up. To the SSD.

Since anything could break on that system. I would not upgrade it.
If that's all you do on the PC...you could get a £200 laptop from Amazon that could perform a lot better even after upgrading that PC.

Putting any money into a system that old isn't worth it. Since you are a church, you can get Windows basically for free.

Is the current pc doing the job for you?

If no, why not?

I would not be inclined to change anything that is not needed.

Your proposed changes seem to me to be ok.
If you are running a 32 bit operating system, you will not be able to use more than 4gb.

A ssd is a wonderful performance upgrade. It makes everything quicker.

I like samsung 860 evo for an upgrade because of the samsung ssd migration app.
It copies your windows C drive to the new ssd.
Change the boot order and you are done.
