DocSIS 1 modem with docSIS 3 internet?

I am supposed to get 90mbs down and lately have been getting really bad speed like 900kbs at times. This will not correct itself untill i restart my modem. Being paranoid i assumed i was getting ddossed regularly. Called my ISP and asked what they thought was going on and apperantly i am running a docsis 1 modem with docksis 3 internet. Has anyone known this to cause such a huge problem as lossing internet regularly like this?

EDIT: Seems to really get bad when i have multiple connections on the network

Your internet bandwidth is being limited by your docsis 1 modem. Time to update!

My Docsis 3 modem cost $40 shipped on eBay and that was 3 years ago. Just make sure it is compatible with your ISP, should be a list on their website.
