All of a sudden, I am having a problem with documents within folders.

Here are two examples:

If I open "My Documents", all documents are in correct order. However, if I
attempt to attach a doc to an email, in the drop down list, they are in what
appears to be reverse order.

If I open "My Pictures" all the pictures seem to be in order. However, if
I use a photo editing program and attempt to open a specific photo, in the
drop down menu, the photos are in some sort of random order (e.g. photos
from my digital camera are all titled DSC followed by a number. They are no
longer apprear in numerical order).

This is making locating specific files/photos difficult.

I have reset defaults in "Folder Options", run virus and spyware scans.

What has caused this problem and how do I fix it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks !

Sort order within the Open dialogs is not necessarily the same as
sort order within Windows Explorer (which is what you're running
when you open a folder directly).

In the Open dialog, go to Details view if necessary, and you'll see
an up or down arrow in one column head to tell you the current sort
order. Click once or twice on Name to sort by name.

Stan -

Thanks for your reply. I tried as you suggested with no success.

Staying with the attempt to attach a photo from "My
Picture"..................... when I open the "My Picture" folder, all the
photos appear in numerical order (e.g. DSC1500, DSC1501, DSC1503, etc).
However, when I open "attach" in an attempt to attach a specific photo, they
are in a random order. In the attachment window, I clicked "detail", changed
it to a list and hit the up/down arrow, which sorted them into numerical
order, however, after closing the window and re-opening it, they were no
longer in numerical order and had reverted back to a random order.

Same problem persists with other applications.

This was never a problem until recently.

Any other help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks !

When it opens for attaching right click inside the box on a empty space and select Sort By Name. Using W2K3 here and it is the same and it is by Default
