i would like to test a amd athlon 1.4 266 fsb processor in a friends motherbord. the motherboard will only take 1.4 200 fsb. will it work or will it damage the chip/motherboard.

The 266 Mhz and 200 Mhz refers to the memory clock -- the processors internal clock always runs at 133 Mhz, unless you overclock it. To answer your question, no, it won't damage anything. The only difference you would notice is if you tried to use 266 Mhz or faster DDR-RAM in the system. In that case the RAM would be underclocked to 200 Mhz. No worries.
