does 1 8gb generate less heat than 2 4gb?

i have 2 4gb but they generate too much heat for my fan so would a single 8gb generate less heat for my computer to handle?

In theory yes, but you lose dual channel performance in doing so.
Ram dosent really produce much heat, if you are having thermal issues, its not your ram.

Here's an example (using http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine):

DDR4 2x4GB produces 3 watts
DDR4 1x8GB produces 3 watts

DDR3 is a little less efficient but not significantly so.

Sounds like you need to work on your system to get good air flow through it. You should have air in take fans in the front and exhaust fans in the back creating a flow of air in the from and out the back. Be sure the vents a clear of dust and anything blocking the air flow in and out of your case. Heat is the enemy of your computer. It is better to run 2 x 4gb sticks then 1 x 8gb stick.
