Does a ethernet cable splitter or router slow down internet speed?

Hello,

I have one ethernet outlet that is hardwired to the modem, and was wondering if hooking up a 2nd computer to that outlet using a splitter or router would slow down the internet speed? My ISP is Bell Fibe.

Also, can anyone suggest a good router or splitter?

Yes, the internet connection will be shared so the mb/s will go down a bit

Depends if your internet is fast or not, if your internet can only handle one pc properly, then splitting the connection will slow it down for boyh the pcs

Router does the same thing a splitter does really... It still splits the connection

Not really sorry, I just use the one my broadband company gives me, but any router or modem with 50mbs will be fine
