Does a GTX 1050 at 720p perform similar to a 1050 Ti at 1080p (or better) when it comes to gaming?

At first, I was going to buy a 1050 Ti but then i checked and found out that it's not in my budget. That's why I'll be going for a 1050. I have a 720p monitor and I'll be using an Active HDMI to VGA Adapter.

However, I was wondering if a GTX 1050 at 720p perform similar to a 1050 Ti at 1080p (or better).

I've heard people say that a 1050 Ti is "more future proof" than a 1050 because of the 4GB VRAM in 1050 Ti. Is the argument still valid if I compare a 1050 running games at 720p and a 1050 Ti running games at 1080p?

By the way, I won't be upgrading my monitor.

Most video card memory will be used to store the textures. If you use high resolution, you will need more memory for high res textures. Gaming at 1920x1080 or at lower resolution you will not feel any difference only because of the difference in Memory amount.
You may also look for a used GTX 960, they sell around $100 and perform like the 1050ti, read here:
