12GB DDR3
mobo: Gigabyte technology GA-MA790GPT-UD3H
Gpu: nvidia geforce gtx 1050

running a AMD Phenom 2 X4 945 clocket to 3.01 ghz right now would it make sense to switch ?

Solution
Absolutely not. Ryzen isn't compatible with that motherboard. That's an old board. The best you could do is putting an AMD FX4130 in there. That's the best your motherboard will support. If you want a Ryzen processor, you need to get a new motherboard. And for what you're gonna spend on a FX4130, you might as well save your money and buy a new board and processor. Which, if you go that route, see if whatever you're gonna get is compatible with the ram.
