does a server = workstation?

hi,

i want to buy/make a 4 processor rendering machine, which i can also use as a workstation at times.

if i buy a 4 processor server, put in a good graphics card and loads of ram, ensure it has fast (133) bus speed etc. will i get -

a - as good performance for openGL modelling

b - faster rendering (i'm using maya, which can multithread render)

than using a dual processor workstation.

do servers have any hidden downsides that make them not so good for use as a multi processor workstation?

a bit more info :

1. i would be running w2000 pro

2. i wouldn't want to use it as a server at all

3. i know getting to machines would be best - one to model one to render, but not enough cash.
