Does adding more ram improve gaming performance

I recently purchased a Lenovo yoga y520 specs 2gb 1050ti 8gb ddr4 ram i5 7300hq my question is would upgrading my ram to 16gb make a difference to gaming

It wouldn't but it will help you with multitasking if you have multiple tabs when on a browser. Chrome apparently sucks up a lot of ram from any system.
