I always though that K9 was the X2 series but AMD just dropped the K9 part for AM2.
As for C2D, yeah its pretty much the same as a Pentium Mobile but with a major overhauls. And the original P4 architecturs was superior to the PIII architecture as it was able to clock higher orignially. We all knew though that the PIII architecture had massively better performance but was stuck at a clock speed ceiling until the released Conroe.
I think that the next "major" architecture revision will be the Nehalem. And maybe Bulldozer if AMD gets their act together and can produce in time.
