AM3+ cpus have a extra pin to stop people from putting them on AM3 boards.

Not true, there are many AM3 motherboards that received BIOS updates after the fact to be able to run AM3+ processors. The extra hole in the socket actually exists, its just not connected to anything. And of course they don't perform as quickly as they would in a proper AM3+ board with all the bus updates, etc that they had.
