Does an AMD processor work with an MSI motherboard?

Hello everyone!
My name is Joseph. I am currently working on requilding my HP Pavilion a6700y Desktop PC to make it a good PC for gaming. I have found a cpu and a motherboard. However, before I go to buy them and use them, I have one question. Will my MSI 970 GAMING DDR3 2133 ATX AMD Motherboard work with my AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition? Sorry if my terms are wrong, I am new to PC building.
