Does an antenna really boost internet speed?

Solution

Oh.... Well, if you have a weak signal it could affect your connection speeds. I have a computer in my back room and I keep my wireless router in my bedroom. But to keep the signal good, I went to Home Depot and picked up some Velcro Strips and stuck one piece behind the router and the other piece on the wall.. and simply wall mounted my router. Lots of things can affect your router's signal... like a cordless phone or microwave located between the router and computer you're trying to get a signal too...

Thank You SBMfromLA!
I am supposed to get –that is what I have paid for- up to 21Mbps . My download speed is 100-300 KB/sec at its best . Will the antenna help here?

Do you have any wireless devices between the two? How far apart is everything? If you're getting a weak signal.. you could also think about a Wifi Repeater to extend your range. Here is info for you to read:

I can get this device:
LoopComm LP-9287E, High Gain Antenna, 7 dBi, Wireless G (802.11g), 2.4 GHz
You can see that it is not meant to be connected to a router but directly to the USB outlet. Does it strengthen the signal?

I checked your link but that is not my concern-I have only one device and it is not getting what it is supposed to get speedwise.

Also, another thing that can affect internet speeds are Tracking Cookies installed on your computer. If you've never removed them... you could have hundreds.. or even thousands... eating up your bandwidth.

The best FREE program I use is SuperAntispyware FREE Edition... during the install.. make sure you say NO to the Trial or Pro version... you want the free one.

A desktop. This my router: 3G wireless Gateway B68A it has two options inner and outer before I get the antenna it was awful but the 4dBi antenna helped a little.

I would upgrade the router and scan for tracking cookies...
