Does an i5 3470 support 2133mhz RAM?

Hi! I'm "re-building" my pc and I'm going to change my RAM, Motherboard, and add a GTX 660 to make a SLI. Would my i5 3470 support 2133mhz? And yes, the motherboard I am going to buy supports it (Intel Desktop Board DZ68BC). I read it on another thread that the processor supports any kind of memory if the motherboard does. Is that correct? Thank you!

Officially, Intel Ivy-Bridge cpus support 1333MHz and 1600MHz ram. That's a 1:1 working relationship with the memory controller which gives the best heat/performance ratio. On paper. In the past, 1600 was far cheaper than 2133 in 8Gb or higher amounts, so was desirable on all counts. That was the past. With current pricing, cooling solutions etc, absolutely no reason you couldn't run the maximum your motherboard will allow. It'll still default to 1600, you'll either have to manually set speeds/voltage or use an XMP profile.

Thanks! So what you are saying is it will automatically set to 1600mhz but I can set back to 2133mhz without problems?

Yep. All ddr3 by default runs 1600MHz, anything higher is considered (OC). So when looking at supported ram on the mobo and you see 1866(oc), 2133(oc) that's all it means. If you are comfortable with manual settings, you can use them for dram speeds, voltage, timings or better is to just use an XMP profile that with 2133 will usually be 2 settings, either 1866 or 2133 with appropriate voltages and timings.
