Does Anti Aliasing uses a lot of GPU Power??

Recently iv been playing far cry 4 at very high graphics..but with anti aliasing at 2XMSAA it lags a lot like drops from 60FPS to 45-50 FPS..and i can see the jagged edges when off..when off i can play on smooth 60FPS..

My specs
AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB OC
AMD FX 8300 3.8Ghz
8GB RAM

Solution
Do not increase the core clock on your GPU by 100mhz.
Increase by 15Mhz, and run a stability test like the Valley benchmark.

If your computer doesn't crash/black screen, increase by another 15Mhz. And run another test.
Repeat this process until your computer does crash/black screen. And then reduce the core clock by 20 mhz.
You now have a STABLE overclock.

Be sure to monitor temps and make sure they don't get too hot! I wouldn't go past 75C


Keep in mind FC4 isn't exactly optimized well atm.
Turning off god rays, making sure ambient occlusion is either off or on SSAO, and turning off fur will give you noticeable performance gains.
I recommend playing without anti-aliasing as it introduces input lag. Much smoother game play without it, and won't be able to tell the difference unless you study each object carefully. :)
 
whats your GPU OC?

i can run the game at 60fps with 2x msaa with my setup just fine

i have a 7950 vapor-x Oc'ed to 1300/1900 and a 3570k @ 4.8GHZ

also u should try Overclocking your CPU if u can AFAIK u can get 10-7 extra fps from a 83XX if u Oc it to 4.5ghz+

or u could try forcing MLAA from CCC

also to answer your question MSAA can really cause input lag

however any perceived increase in input lag is likely due to lower / fluctuating framerates because of enabling it.
 
well if u cant oc your CPU u should try a OC on the gpu maybe 1100 on the core and 1400 on the memory if u have elpida it will lock up if u go above 1500mhz

also if u decided to touch the core voltage don't raise it above 1.3 perff keep it under 1.25 (imo just use stock voltage see how far u can go ) dont raise the voltage at all

also don't touch the vram voltage coz u could brick it if u do

im using 1.22V on the core for my 1300/1900 OC i also have hynix ram which can OC better than Elpida

i also have my fans locked at 48% any higher and i can hear them my Max temps at 79C (your card fan speed % will be different so don't use mine perff keep them on auto if u want )

when Ocing make sure your temps never GO above 85C anything below is fine i perffer under 80C

unless youre playing at 720p on a 32 inch screen i see no reason why you would choose to enable MSAA, the pixel density at 1080p on 24 inch screens is just too high to barely even notice jaggies. And as for the question, yes AA takes a hit on performance, especially SSAA and MSAA.
 


AMD overdrive will work, but I prefer MSI afterburner (you don't need MSI parts to use it, and it's free).
You do not have to reboot after applying each GPU Overclock. But when you start seeing errors and black screens you will need to reboot and immediately lower the clock

Once you find a stable GPU core clock, you can begin overclocking the GPU memory clock settings as well by using the same method.
But overclocking the memory will not give much of a performance boost, compared to overclocking the core.
