Recently my Toshiba Canvio 500 gb external hard drive corrupted and could not be read by Windows, everytime i plug its USB cable into my laptop, Windows always ask "Do you want to format it?". But it always failed everytime i perform Quick Format/Format using right click, so i decided to disassemble it, and i want to attach it directly into my PC's SATA port. Unfortunately after i disassemble it there is no SATA card / SATA slot on my External Hard Drive.

Here's the internal parts of my Toshiba Canvio 500 gb:

What should i do? Please help...

You shouldn't remove the PCB from an HDD without being really careful. The contacts can get skin oil on them, and corrode.

It looks like your HDD is one of the rare ones that doesn't go via SATA, but connects directly over USB.

Connecting it via SATA might not have helped, anyway.

Are you trying to get data off it, or just use it again. If you want data, trying to format it is a bad idea.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is, the PCB board has been damaged when i try to remove it from the hard drive. It's impossible to put it back, because one of the tiny screw jammed so i cut the board.

I have tried the "chkdsk" command, didn't work. And then i try to create NTFS partition and format it using "diskpart" command, also failed.

At first i thought after i remove the board, it will reveal the SATA slot just like the other Toshiba external hard drive which i have seen on youtube. Apparently mine is different, now i'm regretting my decision to cut the PCB.

Is there any other way to fix my external hard drive?

Ok, so there's no other way to make it work again. I'm so confused at that time. Fortunately, all the data can be recovered. Next time i'll ask the forum first before i do anything stupid :)

Thanks for your time to help me out, i'm really appreciate it :)
