Question Does anyone know how to force a higher voltage safely on a Laptop GPU?

I have an ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX507ZI with an RTX 4070.

I was just horrified to find out that my gpu is limited to about 100watts where as it is advertised as 140w gpu.

Cyberpunk is pulling 70-80 watts and Starfield is pulling 90-100 watts.

It explains why the 4070 has such underwhelming performance and gets review bombed all the time.

Is there anything I can do? The extra 40watts would unlock so much potential in this gpu, and I feel like I got ripped off.

This is false advertisement on either Nvidia's part or ASUS's part. Never reaches 115watts, let alone 140watts. Not while gaming anyhow.

First of all, the power limits of notebook GPUs can be configured in a very wide range by manufacturer laptop manufacturers, so they can be adapted to different cooling solutions.

High TDP claims are not really important since the RTX 4070 Laptop running at 105 Watts will offer the same gaming performance as the RTX 4070 Laptop advertised with 140 Watts.

The same is the case for other new RTX 40 models. Nvidia advertises a very wide performance range between 35 and 115 Watt (plus up to 25 Dynamic Boost) for the new models, RTX 4070, RTX 4060 as well as the RTX 4050 Laptop SKUs.

This means all three laptop GPUs can consume up to 140 Watts. That's additional 25 Watts from the processor via Dynamic Boost

These are big differences, and I have noticed extreme scenarios where an RTX 4070 GPU Laptop running at 35 Watts is easily beaten by the RTX 4050 Laptop running at 65 Watts. But Nvidia already mentioned that the power consumption depends on the actual load.

Some might even get mislead when the RTX 4070 is advertised at 140 Watts on some high-end laptop models, but it only achieves this value in certain situation, and is limited to max 100 Watts while gaming.

Notebookcheck did dome benchmarks last year:

Well I'm running everything in 2k or 4k via a monitor and dlss, so I guess that counts for something.

The disappointment comes from seeing the 3070 140watt gpu tackle Cyberpunk at 1080 and max out at 140watts. I'm running Cyberpunk in 2k at high settings no ray tracing and getting 100-120 fps with DLSS. I don't go above 98 watts.

Btw, be careful while changing or altering the power limit and voltage on these chips, since these are Mobile counterparts, and a Laptop does not have much headroom to begin with.

How are the gaming Temp values on your laptop ?

12700h reaches about 85c while gaming.
GPU never breaches 70c.
