Does applying a thermal solution reduce the life of the processor

I wanted to know if the life of my AMD X4 955 would be reduced by applying a thermal solution.....

Do you mean thermal compound which is applied between the cpu and the cpu heatsink? The thermal compound is necessary to help cool the cpu.
