Guys, in our country the gigabyte g1 gaming gtx 980 almost costs 50 dollars more than ASUS strix GTX 980...i know that the g1 gaming overclocks better..but is the price difference justified?? Anyone here owns a strix 980 and has seen how it performs?

Solution
It's fairly competitive between the Gigabyte, MSI , and ASUS cards in terms of performance, but the Gigabyte is better for overclocking thanks to it's bigger stock cooler.
To be honest I've never seen any benefit to overclocking GPUs. Some people say it makes a difference, others don't. From my experience of GPU overclocking, the performance gains aren't really that big, and if you've got a card like a GTX980 you aren't really going to need to OC anyway.
I'd probably advise the Gigabyte though, it's stock speeds are higher even if you don't overclock, and it runs cooler thanks to it's huge radiator.

EDIT: I have two MSI GTX970s and the lack of backplate is annoying. My top card sags A LOT.

MSI and giga almost cost the same here...so no reason to choose MSI as gigabyte comes with a backplate! I just need to know if the STRIX is a complete dud when it comes to overclocking or if it can manage something

that is true..i own a single 1080p 60 hz monitor..so i do not need much horsepower...however i plan to use DSR..so overclocking might prove to be useful...i just want to know that asus has a 10-phase VRM where as gigabyte has 8 phase.,,how does that impact gaming

8 or above is usually considered more than enough by most people. The more important thing is the quality of the modules, and both cards will have high quality so there's really nothing to worry about.
