Will the Asus P5N7A-VM motherboard support a SATA ODD in the SATA 4 socket? This will be a second optical drive in addition to the first 40 pin IDE drive.

If u will run out of the ports, u can still use it with SSD/HDD and hook up DVD drive into the Red one : ) But, it will work,...
Thanks nikorr, I have the SATA 4 connection port available for my Asus SATA ODD. Since the MB manual isn't too specific about connecting SATA ODD's to a motherboard SATA port I was concerned about installing it at all. I will go ahead and try it tomorrow. Other blogs suggest that since the OS is already installed that there shouldn't be a problem, especially with Vista and Windows 7.
Yes, it looks like it. The only difference is that the purple slots you mention appear to be black on mine; SATA's 5 & 6. Good to know that the ODD will work in those slots too. Thanks for your help, I am going to power down now and see if I can install the optical drive. Jim
My Asus DRW-24B3LT SATA optical drive installed and works just fine using the SATA 4 port on my Asus P5N7A-VM motherboard despite the lack of intructions one way or the other in the motherboard user manual. Thanks, nikorr, for your help and confidence that it would work. Jim
