Does a Asus Strix Nvidia GTX 980 need a water/liquid cooling or is air cooling just enough.. I plan to go for the 4GB one... And being in India I find it difficult to find a Liquid/Water Cooler... And I don't prefer from buying from International Websites as I will then have to take care of Customs... Please let me know if there are any Indian e-retail stores selling one of those... Also, I plan to go for the following configuration-
Asus Rampage V Extreme motherboard
Intel i7-5820K (NOT OCing)

So, can you let me know if I am wrong when I say that I need a Liquid/Water cooler to cool my CPU,GPU and maybe the Chipset. Thanks!

Thanks for your quick reply! The Asus Strix Nvidia GTX 980 I am going to buy will be already OCed when it comes out of factory, because the Asus website calls it the "Overclocked Edition" ...

So do I need a water cooler? If so, which one? Any thing I can easily find in India?

I am a newbie and this will be my first custom build. So thanks for helping me out...

Also I found out that The Asus Rampage V extreme would be an Extended ATX (E-ATX)... So I wanted a good case. And being fan of NZXT I found two cases of my liking
1.NZXT Phantom Full size tower (https://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/34-phantom.html#)
2.NZXT Phantom 820 Ultra+ size tower (https://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/96-phantom-820-full-tower-case)

I may be getting a triple GPU later on, so I want to accommodate that also, with a water cooling unit which I will be purchasing after I OC my Processor in a year or two... So can you suggest the better case from the two, I am inclined towards the Phantom 820 one, but please let me know if the Phantom one will do...

And also please let me know if my CPU might need water-cooling. I mean when I game I expect it to heat quickly... Or am I wrong? I thought of the DeepCool Gamer Storm Captain 360 AIO Cooler if i go for the Phantom 820 or the DeepCool Gamer Storm Captain 240 AIO Cooler for the Phantom...

But I will be buying none of these If i need to water cool my OCed Asus Strix Nvidia GTX 980, as then I will need to buy a water-cooling kit... Speaking of a kit, I plan on going for EKWB's kits.. So can you suggest which kit would go well with each case if I need both CPU and GPU to be water-cooled. Also let me know which water block will fit the Asus Strix Nvidia GTX 980...And whether I need to do some modifications to the GPU to fit the water block or not? If I need to do some modifications to it by removing the air cooler provided by Asus present on the GPU, Then, I needn't go for the Asus itself... Am I right? If so, also let me know other Nvidia GTX 980 GPUs that will need no modifications or very less modifications to fit the water water block to water cool...

Update: I also have poor knowledge of Computers and hence can you also let me know If the RAM needs cooling? I plan to go for Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 2133 2x8GB... So I will get a 16GB RAM.. I might be dual booting my Computer, that's why I need 16GB, I thought of going for 32GB but decided I may go out of budget, so I plan to decide that after getting the cooler and PSU, depending upon how much is left in my budget... And finally, I will be going for WD Caviar Green 3x3TB.. So also let me know how many watts my PSU needs to be after I OC everything...

Your stock cooler for all your things should be fine. And no, you don't need a cooler for your RAM. I'm pretty sure they don't make them.

High-end aftermarket Air and Water Cooling is used to keep temperature on manual overclocks.

Factory OC for the GPU means that it's just has a slightly higher clock than reference card (AMD's OEM version) clock.

I'd go for the 980 TI, it's a lot more worth it. It's practically the best GPU on the market today. It's tied with the Titan.

You would never need watercooling on a GPU unless you are overclocking it a lot.

You should make sure you have an SSD of 120GB for your OS, at least.

The CPU will heat quickly, but it won't matter unless it's 65 Celsius or higher, stock clock.

Pretty much all graphics cards work out of the box, with no mods needed. All you need to do is install drivers.

Thanks for clarifying most of my questions!

Regarding the Cooler, you say I don't need any of them for CPU or GPU, even if I game hardcore, without OCing?

And regarding the 980Ti, I am considering that now, as it just released in India... Can you please tell me which one is better-

1.Asus GTX 980Ti 6GB GDDR5 Graphic Card ~ Rs. 61500 (http://www.primeabgb.com/asus-gtx-980-ti-gtx980ti-6gd5-graphic-card.html)
2.Zotac Graphics Card GTX 980Ti 6GB DDR5 ~ Rs. 66500 (http://mdcomputers.in/zotac-graphics-card-gtx-980-ti-6gb-ddr5.html)

I know that both are the same, but does it matter if I go for Asus or Zotac? The price difference is Rs.5k, (~$85) with Asus being cheaper... Which cooling is better, which maintains a lower temperature?

And finally, regarding the case, The Phantom comes with 7 fan slots and 4 fans included, the 820 with 9 fan slots and 4 included.. I guess that should be enough to cool right?

I want to go for the Phantom and not the Phantom 820 as It will be out of my budget, so can all my components fit inside this?

1. Asus Rampage V Extreme E-ATX
2. Intel i7-5820K
3. Asus/Zotac Nvidia GTX980Ti
4. Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 2133 16GB (2x8GB)
5. 2x( WD Caviar Green 3TB HDD )
6. SanDisk Extreme Pro 240GB SSD
7. DeepCool Gamer Storm Captain 240 AIO Cooler
8. A 750W+ PSU

Can you please let me know if all these can fit in the Phantom and also can you suggest a good 750W+PSU.. Thanks!

For the cooler, yes you need a cooler. I just found out 2011/2011-3 CPUs don't come with them. In that case, just get a decent cooler like a 212 EVO or something like that. It doesn't have to be fancy, unless you want to overclock.

Asus. The main reason it's cheaper down there is probably because there's a lot of Asus things opposed to Zotac. I don't know, it's probably something like that. Asus is better overall, though.

Don't worry about temperature. All graphics cards nowadays come with air cooling of some sort that will keep temperatures adequate.

And yes, all your components will fit inside the Phantom.

And for the PSU, anything with 80+ Gold, Platinum, or Titanium will do well.

Anything from SeaSonic, Corsair, Antec, and XFX should be good.

A few questions left...

For the CPU cooler, is an air cooler enough or shall I get an water cooler? I might be overclocking it later, so I want to know if i might need one... I found a 120mm DeepCool Gamer Storm 120 AIO Water Cooler and a DeepCool Assassin for the same price... So I wanted to know going for which one would be better as both have the same price... Or I can go for the 240mm DeepCool Gamer Storm 240 AIO, as it still fits in my budget and will fulfill my Overclocking needs alter on?

And for the PSU, whats the difference between Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium? I plan on going for Corsair RM Series™ RM850 — 850 Watt 80 PLUS® Gold, it is okay ? And for my configuration how many rails will I be needing? And an 850W one is enough right for hardcore gaming?

The RM850 is supposedly longer than other PSU's so will I be able to fit them all in my Phantom?

Thanks! And sorry for asking the same questions again, just wanted to make sure that everything will be fine, as this will be my first "proper" PC! The one I have now is Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.4Ghz with only 2GB RAM and a horrible Intel Graphics Card, and this will be a bit of a jump I suppose...

Air cooling is enough, unless you are overclocking extremely. If you want to overclock a little more, then I'd get the Cooler Master Seidon 120M. It's AIO.

Difference between Bronze, silver, etc.

And yes, that PSU is okay. You will be able to fit it in your Phantom.
