The 5670 has an audio chip but an HDMI cable carries both video and sound.
Are you having trouble playing sound through the TV?
Yes because I can't get the computer to make use of the audio controller on the 5670. It sounds like you have knowledge and familiarity, so I seek your advice.
Problem: No sound through HD5670 video board, only through the main board output port.
I have read many FAQs and support forums over several days and tried everything I have found with no success. Please do not suggest I look at FAQs, I already have.
Much of my system configuration is at the end of this letter, extracted from Belarc Advisor report
I installed the new-out-of-the-box videoboard and driver from the CD. Video is fine.
Purchased 11/2012 though Ebay from Core Web Solutions, NY, Model # 5670-1G S/N PG 1102019959.
From reading in several forums I understand that in the window Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices Properties>Audio "AMD HD Audio rear output" should appear as an optional Sound Playback device, and be selectable.
It doesn't. All there is there is "HD audio rear output 2". No options. This I believe is a major symptom. How do I fix it?
However in window Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices Properties> Hardware I see both
AMD High Defintion Audio Device and
VIA High Definition Device
Both appear (along with the CD drive and various codes and legacy devices)
Under "Properties" in that window both the AMD and VIA devices are shown as "enabled" and "working properly".
Disabling the VIA device results in "No audio device" in the Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices Properties> Audio window and shuts off all sound.
In window Control Panel>Sounds and Audio> Devices>Properties>Hardware>Properties>Properties>Audio Devices>AMD High Definition Audio Device> Properties is the option "Use audio features of this device". No combination of "use audio features" and "Do not use audio features" of the VIA and AMD devices gets the AMD to appear in the Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices Properties>Audio window (and create sound?)
Subsequent study in forums tell me that the CCC Catalyst doesn't load an audio driver for the HD5670 board.
At
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/8-2/Pages/hdmi_xp.aspx?&lang=English
I found a download of "ATI HDMI Audio Driver which appears to be what I need(?). I downloaded a folder "8-2_xp32_hdmiaudio_58128" to location C:/ATI/SUPPORT. In that folder is a setup.exe file which if clicked offered to install the driver, and then says it had done it (after I accepted licence conditions).
But after rebooting the system this has not created the device "AMD HD Audio rear output" at Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices Properties> Audio.
Then I reinstalled the graphics card drive from the CD using Catalyst hoping it would now find and "pick up" the new audio driver. It made no difference.
Still nothing except "VIA High Definition Device" at Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices Properties> Audio.
What do I need to do to get "AMD High Defintion Audio Device" as a selectable option in the Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices Properties> Audio window?
I find nothing (from reading and experiment) in the BIOS to explicitly force the system to use the audio on the graphics board.
I understand that the sound does not come out of the HDMI port of the audio board, but out of the DVI port and the DVI-HDMI adaptor was provided in the box. I have been using that adapter.
Ultimately I want to send video and audio to my HDTV HDMI port, but am convinced I am not yet getting any audio out of the HD 5670 card.
