I have helped people on various laptop models with USBC video capable ports and it was fine for them. Usually laptop's dedicated GPU display runs through the iGPU protocol so performance should still be available when it is set in performance options. The only draw back is Freesync/Gsync feature in monitors require direct connection to the graphics card to work, and in case for laptops, is rare.
