I've updated my BIOS on a ASUS Prime Z790-P to v1805 (most recent, has intel microcode updates) but was done too late; I get game crashes/etc with my current i9-13900k. I tried swapping in a new i9-14900kf which is supported by the mobo but it wouldn't boot.. have a 4090 so shouldn't matter with 'f' or not. The screen stayed black, no beeps, no flashing lights.. usb devices weren't getting power.. etc.

Is there a possible issue if the new cpu doesn't have the microcode updates but the BIOS is updated to expect a chip with said updates?
