Does booting from a SSD only improve the boot time?

Hello,

I've purchased a SSD card and plan on booting from the SSD but i have a couple of questions.

1.) Does booting from the SSD mean that only the OS (Windows 8.1) is moved to the SSD and the rest of my data will remain on my HDD or will all my data be copied to the SSD.

2.) I know that I can boot from the SSD and still store data on a seperate HDD. If I boot from the SSD will my whole computer be faster or will only the application stored on the SSD be faster and the applications stored on the HDD be the same speed?

Solution
1) you will need to move all data including os with data migration software. it is usually included with the drive, but it depends on make/model. You could always just do a fresh install of windows.
2) this is correct "only the application stored on the SSD be faster and the applications stored on the HDD be the same speed"
