does cache in m.2 really matter

Solution
Yes it does.
The m.2 interface, which can contain both sata and pcie lanes, does not negate the need for cache nor an slc buffer.

Your selected drive is one of those sata drives and as such will not even work on an adapter card becuase those do not offer the sata part of the m.2. You need to use an nvme drive such as the 950 pro or just use a normal sata ssd and pocket the savings imo.
