Does Card makers test cards before shipping?

I bought a MSI 660TI PE and it was awesome for oh two hours and then the black screens and odd sounds and crashing of the video driver started. I tried the card on two different systems.


A burn in test before leaving the factory would have caught it. Does MSI or any other card venders test or burn in these cards before they ship to the stores. I remember the last pc I bought preassembles would burn in the pc for 72ww hours to make sure it all worked.


Also love Tom's reviews and forums. have been lurking here for years finally thought I would join up.

When did you purchase the GTX660ti PE?

MSI overvolted the early PE editions. They have nto recalled them, so you may have inadvertently gotten one of these GPUs. They did fix it at Nvidias insistence, but the new PE cards do not perform near as well as the originals. But since the original ones was hit and miss(one would OC and perform great, while 3 others would die without even an OC).

I just bought it on 1/29/13 and sent it back to newegg.

I read about the issues or cheat that msi made. Chances are the card I received was not one of them but who knows. I did not recored s/n.

I was thinking to test ecery card that leaves the factory would cost a lot of time, workers pay, and electricity. Better to send them out, maybe a random pull and test for every run of cards. Kinda a bean counters view.

I do not know the exact procedure, but thanks to warranties on all shipped cards, i guess it would be pointless to burn in each and every card.

Yea I however can see how they would just to make sure it works. I wouldn't expect them to put it through crazy testing like there big bang motherboards or ASUS does with there sabertooth boards.
