Does case size matter?

I am going to be building a custom pc that i want to be fast, upgradeable, and able to last me awhile. I am mainly going to be using it for gaming, word processing, and some video editing (just smaller stuff for youtube). My questions really is does the case size of mini, micro, mid or full tower ATX really matter? I want to be able to bring it to college, and so if i do get a bigger case, i want carrying handles. any suggestions?

The size of the case matters.....that is if you are going to use the space.

It all comes down to what you want to do, and if whatever case you are looking at can fit what you want to put in it. If I want to set up a water cooling loop, a full tower will give me more options than a mid tower or smaller. If you need to use a lot of PCI-E slots, then a full tower would be better. If you want to have the most portable rig, then a micro atx or mini itx case works best (note that you must have the appropriate motherboard size to use these cases). It just comes down to what you need/want.

If you don't need a lot of expansion cards, you could get away with a Mini-ITX motherboard and a very small case. If you're looking for an ultimate gaming system, you're probably going to want a larger case that can hold a large cooling aparatus and multiple graphic cards. If you're looking for massive storage space, you'll need a case that can house as many hard drives as you want.
