Does chipset matter when Socket fits

So i was given a i5 3470 and a dell optiplex 7010 sff mobo with 8Gb ddr3 (1600 mhz) and gtx 760 but when I tried to install the GPU it didnt fit bc the power socket was in the way so i was thinking if maybe I could probably buy a different motherboard with the same socket (lga 1155 h2) but i read on i saw different chipsets on different motherboards even with same socket so my question is does chipset matter? if yes then what is a good low budget mobo that will fit it (preferably under $50) but if not possible then maybe i can sell my i5 and buy a i3 with mobo

No it'll fit, chipset is more to do with features/class of a board, some are better of ocing, more sata etc. Socket is all about CPU compatibility.

Chipset matters a heck of a lot. Socket fitting is the bare minimum. The whole feature set of motherboard hinges on the chipset. See for example:

You can put only low profile cards in dell optiplex 7010 sff.
Your gtx 760 most likely is not low profile.

If you want to use full height graphics card, you will need a new case (probably a new psu also). There's no need to change the motherboard.

If you want a new motherboard for a small footprint Dell look vary carefully to see if PSU has standard connections and provides enough power for the GPU

apparently you need a good 500W PSU with 2 x PCI-e 6 pin connectors for your GPU

Dell motherboards & cases often used non standard connectors for the USB front ports, power & HDD leds + switches
as well as non standard motherboard mountings.

So you may need a new PSU & case as psu probably 240 Watt

Getting a mini-itx board that will fit in that Dell case with a 1155 socket will be easily over $50. Boards of that vintage is going to be hard to find.

Isn't there a blue PCI-E connector that should not at least 1 slot away from the power supply connector? So it won't get in the way?
