[SOLVED] Does clearing CMOS means the bios update will be lost?

Hi, I have a MSI 310-f pro motherboard with an i5 9400f, The motherboard out of the box doesn't support 9th gen CPUs but after a bios update everything is working fine, But i was wondering if i ever remove the cmos battery or push the cmos clear button will the bios reset to an older version or does that mean that only the settings will change.

it will lose any settings. but stay the same bios version.
