Hi Guys,

(I do not know how to post pictures, all the pictures below are links from my google drive. )

I want to upgrade my hard drive to SSD SATA III, I am not sure whether my computer support SATA III.

I have used "sisoftware sandra" to check the hardware, here is the picture:

the maximum SATA mode is G3/SATA600, it looks like my motherboard support SATA III.

However, I have a question about the cable which connects my current hard drive with motherboard, please see the picture (the cable is marked as red line)

This cable has some words on it: HDD1, DOH40, HDD Board.
My current hard drive is: 500GB, SATA300, 2.5", 5400rpm, 16MB Cache
If I switch current hard drive to SSD SATA III, do I need to change the cable which connects hard drive with motherboard?

Thank you for your help.

Solution

You don't have to change anything - just remove the old hard drive and install the new SSD.

You laptop will support any SATA hard drive, whether it's mechanical or solid state doesn't matter.

Solution

Thank you. It looks like my current cable is HDD cable. If I just change the solid state drive without changing the cable to SATA III cable, will the speed be slower?

Thank you, do I have to use this cable in order to get a good speed? Is my current cable okay (I mean get reasonable speedup)?

You don't need to change anything. If it's really SATA III then nothing will change.

the difference between 3 gb/s and 6 gb/s is not really noticeable , unless you're into server business , 3 gb/s cables are usually red and blue , so don't worry use whatever cable you got whether it's a sata II or III they're all backward and forward compatible
