I just Got windows 8.1 64bit , When i extracted it and ran the setup.exe it gave me an error , I heard lot of people say that Core 2 duo just does't support any 64Bit OS , Is it True ?
If you are already running a 32bit OS you won't be able to run the 64bit setup from Windows. You will need to boot from the OS disk directly and perform a clean install.
I believe all Core 2 cpus support 64bit, just the nature of the architecture. What it might not support is Windows 8.1, let me check on that.
Should be fine. Just remembered we put Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64bit on a few old Lenovo desktops. Some of the earlier Pentium H/T and a few other early x86-64 chips don't have all the necessary instructions sets for Windows 8.1
1. Core Duo, based on the Pentium III architecture, was 32-bit only.
2. Core 2 Duo, based on the newer Core architecture, is native 64-bit.
The two are easily confused. So we need to know exactly which processor is in your system.
That "When i extracted it and ran the setup.exe" raises a question. When you download the .iso from Microsoft there's nothing to extract, you just burn the file to DVD or thumbdrive. The retail/OEM versions are already on DVD. So the question is... Just where did you get this copy?
Microsoft, and many, many universities, support a direct download version. It does extract to a setup.exe (basically the same setup.exe as on the retail disc)

Edit : It's T6600
Who are those"a lot of poeple"? Intel chips supported 64 bit OS since some later Pentium 4 models, there are very few chips since then that did not support 64 bit. What exactly was the error?
