Does the core voltage matter as long as the temperatures are low? My 4770K is at 5 GHz @ 70 degrees celsius on air cooling while gaming, is this fine? I understand higher temps will decrease the life of a CPU but back to the main point, does it matter as long as temps are low? idle temps are 30 degrees

I don't see any problems, 5ghz on air is fantastic and a 70c load temperature is fine.

What is your core voltage?

I normally have a 4.6GHz overclock that is 100% stable, 24h on Prime95 and while gaming it's 50 degrees. I have a crummy $30 air cooler. I'm aiming for 5GHz with some tweaking and a water cooling system.

Well your temps are safe, I'd recommend to get a bit low maybe mid-high 60's when overload. If you don't need to increase voltage to make the CPU stable you shouldn't increase the voltage, higher voltage induces more stress on the transistors and shortens the CPUs lifespan. What cooler do you use btw
