So I am workin on building a gaming computer and saw that the RAM is DDR3 and that the graphics card is DDR5 will this be okay or will I have problems???? HELP! PLEASE!
you won't have a problem at all. actually, ddr3 does not support gddr5 (what's on your graphics card). but fortunately, all graphics cards come with their own set of ram built in, so you don't have to worry about that at all
the ram of the motherboard and GPU are not dependent on each other, they have no relation in terms of compatibility.
just think about it, what we have so far for motherboards are just DDR3 (and older), we dont have ddr5. If they are related (gpu ram and mobo ram), then we should not be using gpu's with (g)ddr5 right?
but we are, because they are not dependent on each other. so you are fine. the only compatibility issues you may encounter is, if you have an older slot which is AGP, and if your card is PCI-E

so if i have 16 GB of DDR 3 RAM and 4 GB of GDDR5 RAM does that add up to 20 or will it just use the 4?
For gaming applications they both work separately think of it like this. Games will use your graphics cards ram and your ddr3 ram installed in the motherboard but they both don't need to be the same to run anything. Your ddr3 ram in your motherboard can run completely without a graphics card. Lets just say they will both work together but if you have 16 gb of ddr3 and 4gb of gddr5 you won't magically shoot up in ram capacity because gddr5 is vram and ddr3 is processing ram. Basically ddr3 processing ram and gddr5 vram has always and will always be compatible with eachother.
