Does EAX support digital connection?

EAX neither supports or lacks support for TOSLINK output.
It has nothing at all to do with the digital output.
IF the Sound Card supports DDL or DTS Connect and EAX, you can output 5.1 surround including EAX processing through digital...

TBH, EAX is pretty worthless now a days.
Do not base your purchase only on a standard that is soon to be extinct.

Only asked cos just bought an x-fi xtremegamer soundcard and thought,as u would expect like an xbox i could get 5.1 sound from the optical out on the card. Annoyingly crap that u cant because since I have an nforce 630 chipset on me motherboard I think its stopping the rear connectionsi.e. directly from the soundcard, analougue outputs from working, output is distorted, like its being over driven,at any volume. The front header panel output works sweet!!! but i want the back ones working cos i bought it for gaming. The rear...rear( Ive noticed my diction and phrasing is prob difficult to read!?!blame the rum)outputs and centre sub output dont work at all. Ive scoured the net for solutions, unplugged the front panel connection, used all the versions of the drivers, but still no F$%£*n joy

Is it distorted or a general kinda buzz sound coming from the speakers when people talk/sounds effects play. I have an x-fi Fatal1ty card and it's a little too close to my HD 4870 card, and because I can't screw it down properly it's a tiny bit out of the port, so if I move the computer it comes a tiny bit loose and it gives this really irritating buzzing noise, rather than it being distorted (like the volume is up to high for the outputs) it sounds like the MP3 or encoded sound wasn't encoded properly. I just switch it off adjust it and turn it back on and its fine again. Its a PCI EX x1 right? Try adjusting it a little in the slot and try it again, because optical should work, all the x-fi cards output 5.1 from the optical and spdif.

I have a full size case but a micro atx board,my gtx 8800 blocks one of the 2 pci slots and the only one left is so close when the x-fi is in place it restricts the ventilation of the gpu card so have had to use a flexi pci extender thing. but all this is by the way cos the front ouput,i.e. from the front panel green and mic outputs works fine!for the moment have gone back to a trust soundcard int he same set up and it works fine...but just sucks a bit in quality compared to the x-fi.ill re-fit it and struggle on
