Does extending a drive make it run slower?

I want to extend my C: drive over to my E: drive so that I can have one combined disk with a lot of space and I want to know if the disk would run any slower. I'm using one 7200 rpm drive and one 5400 rpm drive.

I was planning to use disk management to make an extended volume and then use the C: and E: drive.
