I just signed up because I'm not finding anything on DuckDuckGo (my Google alternative) on hardware lifetime affection by gaming, while knowing someone who seems to have burned through some Hardware by gaming on it. Anyone who knows something or has any thoughts about it?

Solution
Some areas have dirty power, old house wiring causing similar issues, people buying bad quality components especially the psu, there maybe other conditions to consider than just temps. You can run 80c+ all day and still be running a decade later. But typically there is no relevant effect. The hardware should still be working past its usable time 10+ years.

The only reason a component can be damaged to the point where it’s lifespan is shortened is if it heats up too much. Download an application to monitor your temperatures, and get an average temperature for your components at idle (not running anything). Most CPUs aren’t damaged under 90°C, but I like to stay under 75° just to be safe.

Gaming of itself has no effect on a PC lifespan vs any other use case.
Software development, CAD, video rendering, photography, number crunching...all can be just as intensive as games.

Temperature, crappy components, crappy house power...all can have a far greater effect than playing games.
