Does HD 5770 lag?

Multi-tasking has nothing to do with the GPU. You have a fast CPU and good memory so I don't think you will have a problem multi-tasking. Playing games, hmm, you will have decent FPS with high details until 1920x1200 resolution.

Initially I'm thinking of getting 5850 but I need to lower my budget to accomodate something else. I am thinking to wait for GTX 3xx next year. Is 5770 a better choice for the time being? I'm going to use windows 7 on a Benq 24 inch monitor and tv-out to 40 inch samsung for my daughter's DVDs.

The 5770 is a decent choice for the time being. Take note the card is not a gaming monster so be ready to lower some details (not by much). For watching DVDs, gaming at a good quality picture and maybe in the not so distant future checking out Dx11 the card is perfect.

You will have no problem with any type of HD movie. The card is designed to handle games that are more stressful than any HD movie. I bet that you can run multiple HD movies simultaneously on multiple monitors using the card and HD player software that can use the GPU and not only the CPU.

The size of the TV doesn't matter. Your monitor is most likely 1920x1080 in resolution, lower than your monitor. There won't be any lag with your setup.

Sorry for asking too many questions it's just that I have tried so much to convince my wife to replace my P4 2.8 dell PC because it's just too slow and now it's giving signs that it wants to retire. And she a annoyed when she is watching movies from the PC and it's stops or lags while I'm working on something else. Thanks very much for your help.
