Does HDMI splitter reduce quality or cause input lag?

My monitor has two native HDMI ports and I use one for my computer and the other one for my Xbox. I also have a Playstation and was wanting to hook that up as well using an HDMI splitter. If I use the HDMI splitter and switch between Xbox and Playstation, will there be any input lag or reduce of quality now that I am using a splitter and not from the direct HDMI port itself on the monitor?

The splitter I have is basically one like this :
http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-SWITCHER-SPLITTER-SWITCH-Specification/dp/B0030AZ44O/ref=sr_1_1?s=audio-video-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1431647712&sr=1-1&keywords=HDMI+splitter

Or do you guys just recommend me to just not use the splitter and just switch the HDMI cable when I switch between the Xbox and Playstation as this won't be much of a convenience.

You are using it as a switcher... not as a splitter, unless I misunderstood something in your OP. As a switcher you will not need an active splitter. In fact, you couldn't even use that active splitter as a switcher.
