Does intel i3-550 work instead of Dual Core E6600?

Hi I have a fairly dated pc (Acer Veriton X275) with all original internals except for a bit more ram and I was wondering if I could upgrade the CPU from pentium to low-end i3 (I'm on a tight budget!) They both use the same socket (LGA1156) but the Pentium runs @3.06GHz and the i3-550 runs @3.20GHz. Thanks.

EXTRA: also is it worth buying a low end i5 and if I did that I'm fairly sure I'd need a new heatsink and fan from the original pentium's?

Solution
You cannot do a direct upgrade because the socket is different. You will need to change the MoBo as well, I3 530 is on LGA1156. Also, you PC seems to be one of those who has a custom format MoBo, so you will not be able to just buy any Mobo for it. One CPU that can work with your PC is Core2 Quad Q9550.
