Question Does it connect?

I have :
1) an old Dell Latitude D620 which has a VGA port.
2) A VGA to HDMI cable described here: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/vis...m-m/apd/aa421384/monitors-monitor-accessories
3) A Dell U2417H monitor that has a HDMI port.

Can I connect the dell laptop to the monitor and get a 1920x1080 resolution? Thanks.

Description of adapter says it supports 1080p so should work.

After many days of trial, turns out it does not connect. The screen just turns black.

Does the adapter have usb for power to do the conversion?

Yes, the conversion cable has a USB port. Is it for additional power supply?

Yes, it needs to be connected so the conversion from analog to digital can be done otherwise you won't get a display.

Usb cable between adapter and usb port back of the computer will do.

After connecting the USB port, the monitor finally lit up. But under 1920x1080, the signal is noisy so there are waves moving on the screen. I think this is the best I can have.

I suppose quality is going to come down to the adapter. Could try another.
