Does it make a difference if i have an 8th Gen i5 on Windows 8.1 rather than 10?

Hi. I just got my new i5 8400, and i installed it, but now my windows 8.1 keeps saying that 8th gen intel processors only supports windows 10, and that i will not get new updates for my cpu.
Do i have to upgrade to windows 10, and does it make a difference in gaming?

My specs:
i5 8400
Asus Rog Strix B-360g
Cpu cooler: Cooler Master ma610p
Graphic card: Gtx 960 (upgrading in a week)
8 gb ddr4 ram

You wont get any CPU driver updates or security fixes unless they are deemed to be important enough to warrant a "policy deferral". But it should still run and not have a major impact on performance. Though I suppose if they wanted to be real A* then they might prevent it from boosting or throttling down.

8th gen processors from Intel was made to work only on Windows 10. I never attempted to install anything that was on a 7th or 8th gen, that wasn't Windows 10. I am pretty sure 7th and 8th are both Windows 10 specific chips.

So the problem is that all is that there are security issues that you won't get because you're not on 10. I do recommend going to Windows 10 and doing a clean install afterward to be sure you don't run into issues. I've seen many issues occur after upgrading from windows x to Windows 10.

So it won't affect your gaming, but it is a security flaw. You're taking a risk by not getting the CPU updates.
