Question Does it matter what USB port I connect my drives to? I mean how important are their markings (D:)..

Does the situation when shortcuts can't find their file happens due to the fact that the hard drives have been marked differently than as it was
when they have been plugged to a different USB's (it was G:, now it's H: - as far as different USB's define marking of the drives as I assume..

You know, some shortcuts on C: drive don't work. And maybe the projects from this drive also do not recognize files from different drives now.. Does it really matter which USB I'm plugging them in?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

In 2022, given that pretty much all(save for some) have a BIOS flashback button/port on the rear of the motherboard, I steer clear of that. Generally, the OS will identify the shortcut/launcher with regards to how it was setup, meaning if there was an app's launcher in G and you now renamed the drive to D, you will need to make sure the drive is connected and then click on the launcher's shortcut/executable. If the drive is changed again but the executable is on your desktop, it'll end up showing an error.

You can just open up the Disk Management app and change the drive letter of the usb drive whenever you need to.
