get a pcie riser
depending on motherboard performance could be severely affected if not using slot 1
Check you board manual. Some may the lower slots connected with less links. This may or may not cause a performance hit(depends on the game and card.).
I've just tried it again and it literally clears with less than a mm so should be ok. Still, what a stupid design! The other ram slots are about 1cm higher up so why the f didn't they do it with the other side. Oh well should be ok thanks for the replies guys
the ram slot is made of plastic so shouldn't be a problem with the gpu backplate, no surprises there, if you managed to install it, it will be ok
if you need to remove ram modules in the future, for cleaning or upgrading or troubleshooting, be sure to remove first the gpu to avoid bad surprises when removing the modules
Boards only have so much space. My board(6 years old) has the memory right up next to the video card. The slot is designed so that that side does not have to be opened to remove sticks.
Luckily the moving part of the ram slot to take out the sticks is at the top so that won't be an issue. Finally they did something useful haha. On another note sorry off topic is servisol video 40 isopropryl spray a suitable solution to clean off thermal paste from cpu?
