After a really long matter that gave me terrible headaches i came up with something new

The matter was that I am using a evga gtx 1080 ftw and an asus 4k 60hz monitor.. I was between buying a second gtx 1080 or moving to ultra wide curved 3440x1440 monitor.
After a hundred post and discussions i dropped the ultra wide monitor idea.

But how about asus MG279Q? 2560x1440 144hz ips panel monitor?

Does moving to 144hz makes a lot of difference? I am gaming only. No editing and blah blah. Just gaming. All day. Everyday.

The pros of that option is that is about 200 euro cheaper than buying another gtx 1080 or getting an ultrawide monitor and the ips panel.

But I am downgrading my visuals from 4k to 2k.

Your opinion? Does it worth it?

IMHO, anything below 75Hz is not worth for serious gaming - especially shooters and other fast games.
60 vs 75 is very visible. beyond 100Hz, it is much harder to tell the difference. I personally don't see/feel difference beyond 120Hz in gaming.
Very soon (hopefully by the end of the year), monitors with DP 1.4 will start to appear. and that's "hello 3440x1440@100+ Hz (and 4K@120Hz) for reasonable price (700-800)" - that's when I'm going to get one.
regarding downgrade:
1. What is the size of your current monitor, what size you are planning to get ?
2. What is the viewing distance ?

It may also worth mentioning that I am playing all kind of games. Literally all kind. Racing games like need for speed, forza horizon 3. Bf4 and I have already pre-ordered call of duty infinite warfare and Bf1. I am also buying that Mafia 3 100%. I can't write them down all. I just play all games, action, rog, mobos, racing, fps, 3rd person shooters(spec ops-the line, what a game) fifa, NBA, dragonball/Naruto games.

My current monitor is 28 inches, the one i am gonna buy is 27 inches. I was referring to visuals as a downgrade, moving from 3840χ2160 to 2560x1440. The viewing distance is close. Can't say for sure but I belive is 60-80cm
